As summer draws to a close, I'm looking forward to another academic year with the wonderful students at University of Illinois. There were many wonderful concerts and project this summer, including Wertico, Cain and Gray, with Paul Wertico and David Cain, Crossing Borders, with gifted young trumpeters Victor Garcia and Ian Torres, a new recording with Howard Levy and continued work with the Larry Coryell Trio, along with Paul. Most importantly, the summer culminates in the Chicago Jazz Festival, and I have several performances this year at the festival. These include my trio, with John Moulder and Ernie Adams, a big band led by T.S. Galloway paying tribute to our recently departed comrade, pianist Ken Chaney. The highlight of the Chicago Jazz Fest for me will be my performance with Jack DeJohnette's Special Edition Legends, which also included Muhal Richard Abrams, Roscoe Mitchell and Henry Threadgill. We started rehearsals today and it will be an amazing and unique performance, and we look forward to the recording of the concert. In closing, I hope you enjoy my website and that you will visit frequently.
